Character Information.

Name

Lisa Garland

Age

23

Sexual Orientation

Heterosexual. Bi-curious.

Occupation

Ballerina.

PB

Romola Garai.

Appearance

Lisa is quite a charming character. She has natural blond hair; big, bright green eyes, a pretty pale skin that tends to burn easily and an attractive body build; and although she is maybe a bit shorter than average, that is hardly a concern for her-- that's what high heels are for!

She dresses, if not to impress, then at least to please herself. Lisa likes pretty dresses, and tends to show more cleavage than appropriate at times, though she rarely comes out as vulgar.

Lisa tries to be pleasant and charming most of the time, and she usually manages it. She is constantly smiling, humming songs when alone or bored, and generally acting cute and nice to mostly everyone she meets.

Personality

Lisa is a kind soul. She suffers for others, sometimes more than she ought to, and she is a bit of a crybaby. She usually has not trouble showing other people how she feels and what she wants, and because of this she comes out as selfish and bitchy every once in a while.

She likes attention, and has a bit of a complex of abandonment. Although she is cheerful and talkative, and makes friends easily; Lisa has some trouble into really letting people in. Few people get to see the grumpy, insecure side of her; mostly because she has the feeling they’ll abandon her when she needs them the most.

Lisa can come off as overly clingy and a bit temperamental. It takes her little to get mad, but a lot to actually harbor hate for someone. She has a strong sense of justice, but she forgives a bit too easily, looking for the good side in people who don’t always have one. She enjoys teasing, flirting and seeing other people get flustered when she happens to cross the line. However, she is loyal as a dog, and paining others is not something she enjoys.

In Game History

Only daughter of a middle class family. Raised by her ill tempered father, since her mother abandoned them when she was a little girl.

Lisa has been studying ballet since she was five, and she is quite talented at it, now being a premier sujet in Harmony Ballet Theatre. She led a normal, uneventful life- perhaps she got herself into more trouble than usual, running away from school and partying every Friday, but nothing too serious. Her father’s scolding were well known in their neighborhood-- he could yell so much all the block would end up finding out about Lisa’s new boyfriend by the time she managed to calm him down.

Perhaps it was all that yelling that ended up affecting him- he died of a heart attack when Lisa was about to turn twenty. Unable to pay the rent of their house by her own now that her father was gone, she moved to a small apartment. The building stunk some times, the neighbors were too noisy and the walls too thin- but she could afford the rent. Not only that- it was there where she met James Sunderland, who would eventually become her best friend and current boyfriend.

History

Lisa Garland is a nurse who worked at Alchemilla Hospital. She was addicted to White Claudia, a drug being dealt by the hospital's administrator, Dr. Michael Kaufmann, and Silent Hill's resident cult, the Order. One of Lisa's duties was to take care of the patient Alessa Gillespie, who was severely burned in a fire. Alessa's body was covered in burn wounds which would not heal, and were always oozing blood and pus, requiring frequent bandaging. Lisa did not understand what was keeping the girl alive, and the ordeal of constantly replacing the bandages took a toll on her sanity. Alessa misinterpreted Lisa's care as actual affection, something she desperately wanted having never received any from her mother. This might be the reason why Lisa retains her human form and individuality during the events of Silent Hill, despite being a Puppet Nurse, who symbolize Alessa's hate for nurses.

When Harry stumbles into the 'Alternate' Hospital, which is full of gore and demonic nurses, Harry finds Lisa huddled in a room hiding from the monsters. She claims that she has no idea what is going on, explaining that she passed out and when she came to, everything was different. Lisa is a good source of information about Dahlia Gillespie and the old cult that used to reside in the town.

Harry periodically loses consciousness and finds himself back in the Otherworld hospital, without explanation. Interestingly, Lisa does not act startled when he awakens, claiming that he never left and that he was having a bad dream. During one of these episodes, Harry wakes up with a start and finds himself in the hospital again; Lisa emerges over him with her left eye twitching.

During the final paranormal trip through the hospital, Lisa explains to Harry that she ventured into the basement of the hospital and began to "understand" what is happening. Lisa realizes that she is only alive because she never noticed that she is the same as the other Puppet Nurses, who are dead. When she begs Harry to help her, Harry shoves her back, and Lisa starts bleeding from her head and every orifice. She staggers toward Harry until he runs out of the room. Although she sobs and bangs on the door behind him, Harry is too frightened and holds the door shut.

Harry may reenter Lisa's room if the player wishes, only to find that she is gone. Among her things is her diary; In it, Lisa writes that she can't stand being alone with "that patient" in the basement anymore and is going to tell "the Doctor" that she wanted to quit. A cryptic videotape which Harry found earlier can now be played if he inserts it into a VCR. The tape recording shows a woman covering her face with her hands (but speaking in Lisa's voice) pleading with an unseen figure and promising she "won't tell a soul".

Lisa does not appear again until the end of the game. If the conditions for earning either the Good or Good+ endings are met, she appears after defeating the final boss; just as Kaufmann is about to escape, a bloodied Lisa rises through the floor and drags the horrified Kaufmann down into the pit she came from.

It was stated by the game's staff that Lisa's soul is still in torment because of her actions in the first game. In fact, Lisa is represented by the bound nurse Valtiel is seen torturing in several locations throughout Silent Hill 3, and the short film Fukuro.
